In 2020, Caravan Palace heads back to Europe on tour, including several stops in their native France. The latest album Chronologic was released in 2019, their fifth to date. The band began in 2008 and is known for its multi-instrumental, high-energy performances. A while back, he started playing Caravan Palace around the house and I was hooked, and I was also embarrassed that I had not heard of this amazing electro-swing band from Paris before! When they came to play at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, I was thrilled to be there to capture the fun. The band continued to cultivate a relationship with the audience, as Colotis spoke to them in classic-party starting mantras “how are you doing Bristol?”, “are you feeling good?” and, more importantly “are you ready to dance Bristol?”.One thing that is pretty cool about having a musically-enlightened teenager is that he, well, enlightens you about bands. The frontwoman showcased a well-rehearsed routine that she taught to the audience, for them to mimic and become fully immersed in the performance. They started the proceeding by blurring the lines between their vintage and modern sounds, playing two tracks back-to-back which featured the rhythmic contemporary electro track ‘Plume’ that encouraged on-stage dancing from Colotis & Co. The strobe lighting flickered back on and illuminated the stage to present an array of instruments from baritone saxophones to trombones, the full band (fronted by Zoé Colotis) and a symbolic backdrop. The level of vocal appreciation from the audience gradually rose with each individual entrance, before it eventually faded out with the strong sense of budding anticipation.
